September 17, 2005 12:10 PM Physical Integrity of the Optical Surface of Window Glass
It has come to my notice that the physical integrity of the optical surface of window glass is not the same. The frictional coefficient varies across the entire surface. Some tempered surfaces are embedded with what can be called fabrication debris or microfines left over after the plate was scored and broken to size before the tempering process. The embedding likely occurs during the tempering process. It is also true that some annealed glass likewise has surfaces that can be either very smooth or quite rough. I was wondering if anyone on this group has ever dealt with this or could offer any technical explanations? Henry Grover Jr. Glass Tech Services GTSForums@hotmail.com
